In search of a perfect script . . .
Well, it seems I found a pretty decent shopping cart script finally, and WordPress seems to be decent for blogging. Now all I have to do is repeat the feat with a directory script, a photoblog/gallery script, a content management script, a forum script . . .
It seems that very few scripts ever have all of the pieces I need to do what I want to do, so I have to:
- modify an existing script, which means I have to become better at php and other scripting languages.
- keep looking until I find exactly what I’m looking for.
- pitifully beg the script author to modify the existing script in hopes he or she will do it.
- offer the script author money to do those mods.
Unfortunately, except in the case of open source scripts, the last option is the only one with a chance of working. With open source scripts you can post to the wishlist, and sometimes your wish is granted, but it usually takes awhile, and sometimes doesn’t get done at all.
So I’m still looking for good scripts– written to work with up to date xhtml/css. Still a struggle, but no longer an impossible dream, like it seemed to be a year ago.
