The Open Source Spirit wins out . . .
It’s really funny how misunderstanding and arguments can sometimes clear the air of a BUNCH of issues.
I’m not going into great detail on this, since it’s too long winded and involved. Re PHP Link Directory, the developer team has decided NOT to so openly pimp for donations after a dialog was opened on a bunch of other stuff- and since the dialog was opened I felt it okay at that time to bring up the issue I recently posted about, namely begging donations on an open source script forum. Yes, they’re gonna have paypal donation buttons prominently displayed all over the place, but they have “seen the light”, or so we hope. They will no longer be blatantly begging for dough in forum posts, or so they’ve stated.
The guy who is “running the joint”, David, actually seems to be a pretty okay guy. I think inexperience and maybe not looking around at other open source communities was the reason for the faux pas. Only time will tell, but I do feel pretty good about what’s been said.
And if you decide to use this PHP script and pop a question on the forum in the Design Category– well, I’m now one of the moderators. Who woulda thunk?
I’m cautiously optimistic on this. I hope it works, it’s a helluva script!
