A small business website success story.
Had breakfast with a past client today, Terry Cook of Deco Rides, who builds custom cars, turnkey updated versions in fiberglass of the ‘39 Lincoln Zephyr, Foose Boattail Speedsters, and other really fun unique cars. This site was a joy to do, since Terry, having been a top editor for Car and Driver, Hot Rod Magazine, and many other industry hardcopy publications over the years, ‘gets it’ when I talk about the importance of content and the use of key phrases as “hot buttons” for getting people to his site. It’s been a wonderful experience working with him, not least of which was getting to use such incredible eye candy, not to mention checking a Z-series Convertible out up close and personal. Terry is one of my heroes, since he’s taken a dream, added a HUGE dash of passion, and created a couple businesses built around that dream. His dream? In his words, “Havin’ fun with cars.”
Today he told me that Deco Rides had a banner year, and he attributed it to the debut at the end of January of the redesigned and rewritten Deco Rides website. He said the cars he’s sold this year and the few he’s been given the opportunity to build now and in the near future are almost all, either directly or indirectly, from the website.
It was great listening to him tell me about the Maharajahs and Shahs he’s doing business with, people in other parts of the world who he would have never met without world wide web exposure and a website that presents him and his cars in a fun and glamorous way.
It’s especially nice to get the feedback, and to hear that all the hard work accomplished something good.
