None of us who have close ties to NYC can help but remember the horror and sadness of 9-11, the anniversary of which is almost here. It’s a double whammy this year, with Katrina’s wrath and the relief effort going on there.
I don’t want to pull heartstrings or dump my own feelings here. I do want to offer a small bit of advice. There have been relief efforts springing up all over the place, and unfortunately a lot of them are bogus and sick attempts to take advantage of the outpouring of sympathy and sadness. Please, before you give, make sure you are giving to an organization that is truly going to use the money for the relief effort.
The Federal Trade Commission has some good guidelines on their website about how to make sure your Katrina Relief donation is truly going to help someone, the way you intend.
