Update to CSS Friendly CMS- The Holy Grail
I’m really wishing I could just take the entire Joomla community and transplant them onto a cool, working open-source CMS script that has separated out the script functions from the templating functions. They are going way above and beyond the call of duty to give me options for making this thing work in Joomla.
Unfortunately the only option that has a chance of working involves hacks to the core code.
That means that any necessary security updates in future may “break” the installation.
And then there’s the problem caused by the add-on to be solved. Another person on the board mentioned that there IS a “mambot” that’ll clean code via htmltidy as it’s outputted, but where it can be found is a very big question. So even if I fix one problem the other may still be there.
I’ve thrown all the pros and cons into the lap of the site owner. I’ll do whatever he says. I just hope I don’t have to hack around with mambo/joomla in its present incarnation.
Oh, and that’s another thing that was brought up by another of the helpful community members. The NEXT version of joomla will have html generation separated out from the core. Supposedly. We hope. Of course, there is no release date posted, and there’s always the inevitable bug shakeout that has to happen.
I’m not holding my breath . . .

Hi, I think that CMS designers do realize this problem. I noticed a shift in CMS toward to designs. The best think I’ve seen so far is the Elixon CMS project. It uses the AJAX+XUL technology and it looks like it has a perfect support for CSS styles! It has both CSS/template WYSIWYG editor (Designer) and WYSIWYG HTML content editor
I’m really looking forward to it…
