Photos in WordPress?

It’s about time WordPress gets image upload and post capability. There are websites I could have used WP on if it had this feature, but chose something else because it did not. This is a LONG overdue enhancement to an otherwise great script. Unfortunately we have to wait for the release of 1.6 to get it.

Yeah…. but then, 1.6 will have such a boat-load of other crap that no one wants or needs, is it worth using for one piece of functionality?

  2. Irish Web Design Says:

Well, the functionality can be added with a gallery plugin. Thats not a problem, although sometimes implemention one can cause problems.

I integrated one on http://www.davesadventure.com/photos and also used the wp2gallery plugin on http://www.illkickyouinthenuts.com/gallery and http://www.sarahchalke.org/gallery2 (NSFW)

All are still works in progress, but it just goes to show, you do not need to wait for someone to integrate into a version of the backend you are using, you can do it yourself.

Isn’t that the point of OS software?

  3. BJ Says:

I think you both missed my VERY BASIC point- this is barebones basic functionality that should have been in WP from the beginning.

I’m not talking full blown photo gallery, I’m not talking boatloads of other crap. I’m talking about a person who knows nothing about html, or ftp, or any of the stuff we webdevs take for granted, being able to add a photo to a blogpost. Period.

Oh, and Dave, I’m absolutely GREEN with envy over that domain name. You know which one . . .

  4. Vkaryl Says:

And you missed my point as well: no matter that some think this should have been in the basic functionality “all along” (I don’t personally - I don’t WANT people using us my space and bandwidth with their crap photos in posts…. but that’s just me….), in order to have it you now have to take 1.6 with all it’s boatload of other crap “functionality”.

    Sorry - REALLY bad trade….

  5. Vkaryl Says:

Amended…. to take into account that you are trying to pacify clients….

Yeah, that bites from the “sell to the client” aspect.

  6. BJ Says:

Hey, V, I don’t think that allowing a person to post photos on their own blog is gonna give everyone else the ability to post photos to the same blog. This is just blogpost functionality. So if it’s your blog “people using us my space and bandwidth with their crap photos in posts” isn’t an issue, it’s just your own crap photos. And I would assume that if it’s a group blog everyone would have the same privileges, otherwise you wouldn’t open it up to a group, would you? I don’t think the comments area is going to allow uploads or photo posts.
