Ebay Templates and Tag Soup
I’m within a couple hours of completing the first one, but I gotta tell ya, creating an Ebay template is HARD. Why? Because Ebay’s pages are tag soup. No doctype. None. And a mishmash of coding styles that would have Sybil struggling to keep up with the personality changes.
I’m used to working with nice, clean, relatively PREDICTABLE code. I’m used to having control of the head of the document and working to a specific doctype. I’m used to knowing what to expect from the code I write. With tag soup all bets are off.
But this intrepid adventurer will wander into the wilderness of mixed uppercase and lowercase, xhtml mixed with pre 4.0 html, and awful inline javascript and create a masterpiece that actually shows what is intended . . . even if a couple rules have to be broken to do it. It’s not like validation will ever be possible, so why not? Just this once . . .
