SE Spiders and Sitemaps
I wrote a couple weeks ago about the importance of sitemaps. I wanted to let you know that since I’ve included sitemaps on this site in ALL formats the SE spiders have been going absolutely NUTS on my site. Yesterday alone the bandwidth was triple what it usually is, yet I had the amount of unique human visitors I’d expect.
I finally got around to installing the link on the bottom of my site’s index page that links to my sitemap.html. So the search engine spiders that don’t read the google sitemap format or the yahoo sitemap format or the opml sitemap format can read the html sitemap. That happened a few days ago, and could very well be the reason for the recent spate of activity. The AutoMapIt Sitemap Service was, for sure, one of my better decisions.
It’ll be interesting to see how it changes my SERPS and PR come the next Google Dance. I’m already pleased with the Jagger changes, and I understand from the SEO messageboards that I’m one of the few. But then, I don’t fuss overly with exact keyword/phrase ratios and placement, and all the other statistical and analytical stuff the SEO weenies chomp on daily. I just give good content, and give the spiders the easiest way to find it. It seems my “formula” is working.
