"And yes, the horseradish does help, even if it will near kill ya going down. Commercial will work somewhat, but if you can get hold of a real horseradish root and grind it yourself there is nothing to compare– and, when you start to grind, your sinuses will begin to drain the minute that pungent aroma hits your nostrils"

Ummm...there is a somewhat less harsh method of clearing-up your sinuses (unless you absolutely insist on that masochistic method): go to your local health food store and buy a little bottle of Peppermint Oil. When you get home with it, dab some on your forefinger and rub it on the outside of your nose and into your temples and across your forehead. Do not put any inside your nose and be careful of your eyes with this stuff.

After a few minutes, you will feel a cooling sensation everywhere you put the oil, and your sinuses will start to clear, and your eyes will water due to the clearing above and below the eyes. This is why, by the way, you wait until you're home to put this stuff on your face...you won't be able to see to drive when your sinuses start to drain and your eyes tear-up a bit.

BUT, it's good for some temporary relief to stopped-up noses (or, to cause a a good cry) and you don't have to burn your throat with the taste of (bleck!) a spoonful of horseradish.
