The IE7 Madness begins . . .
Yes, folks, the css-d list wiki is already full of IE7 b2 bugs and fixes. The overwhelming consensus seems to be that it’s going to be a nightmare. Not only do the standard IE hacks and css filters NOT work in IE7 b2 so there is no way to filter stuff to it, but there is a list of bugs a mile long already. Dare we hope that the MS engineers manage to get them all fixed in time for release? If past history is an indicator I think not.
There’s another HUGE problem here. MS refuses to put out any version of their browser as a standalone version, so those of us who only have one PC are forced to choose which version of IE we are going to have installed. This has the further affect of greatly limiting the number of developers who are willing to beta test this version. To add insult to injury, there have been reports (read comments) that some folks who did install the beta and found it to be hopelessly broken COULD NOT ROLL BACK THEIR IE7 INSTALLATION TO IE6!!! This is further alienating an already disgusted developer community. It will also help to ensure that there will be a lot of bugs that will go unfound and unreported prior to the rollout.
Is it any wonder that Open Source and the GPL is looking better and better? Is it any wonder that FF is continuing to gain market share? When diehard MS weenies like the VBSensei abandon IE in favor of FireFox it says something profound indeed.
