I’m a real blogger now- I have to install a Comment Spam Plugin
Yeah, ever since I designed that blogskin for PC Mike and he not only blogged me but allowed me the linkback, things have been nuts here. He got hit hard with Comment Spam when he switched from TypePad to WordPress, and being a TV Celeb and all, who is linked from both the NBC News National site and the Detroit Free Press site, not to mention from sites like Apple.com, they ALL found him, all the scumbag p&hentermine sellers and p&enis en&largement scam spammers and mes&othelioma ambulance chasers. So, since they all follow blog links they all found ME. AND all the clients I’ve done custom WordPress Themes for (and I hope to HELL my clients don’t read this, since then they might choose to shoot the messenger.) Now, the comment spam hasn’t been all that awful to deal with, it all goes into moderation, I go in there once a day, approve what few are real comments, mark the rest as spam, click the button, and off they go. But today has been TRACKBACK HELL.
So I go into admin and turn off trackbacks. That’s simple, right? NOT!!! Each and every post has a box that can be checked to allow trackbacks. If it’s checked (which it is by default when you post) you then have to UNCHECK it to stop trackbacks. If that box is checked when you post then it overrides any setting you have in admin, like NOT allowing trackback pings– you have to go in and EDIT EVERY GODDAMN POST and uncheck the stinking box. Do you have any idea how long that’s going to take? So I had to install a plugin. I’m trying wp-spamassassin on recommendation from Vicki (vkaryl on the wp forums and here on the kickass blog.) If that doesn’t work I’ll have to try something else . . . hopefully not Bad Behavior, which has sysadmins shaking in their boots from the way it sucks sys resources down to the bare bone.
Does this mean I’ve now ARRIVED as a blogger???
***UPDATE!!!***
Bad Behavior, at least on MY hosting, is NOT a resource hog. It also happens to work at least 95% of the time.
