ModX Now has SMF Forum Integration
Just announced on the ModX Support Forum the module for the integration of the SMF forum application with the ModX Content Management Platform has been completed and will be released later today. This comes at a perfect time for me since I’ll be using this to build the Refresh Delaware Valley community website (which is currently a simple html page.) This CMS Forum Integration will be a big help for those building community websites and has been long awaited by ModX fans.
To recap why I’m a ModX fan– xhtml/css clean code all the way! Unlike the other CMS programs this one doesn’t dictate what I can use on the frontend. The design power in creating the ModX Template is in my hands, not that of some backend php weenie who thinks tables are the only answer for any problem. With this forum integration into ModX it is assured that the ModX Content Management Platform will be taking off bigtime, which means more new features will be coming along soon as devs and supporters start to climb on the bandwagon.
Now, I know that the Forum Skin will be a bit less kind in terms of frontend dev since there’s only one forum I know of that doesn’t use tables for layout and SMF isn’t it, but the integration will make it much easier to build a community since only one login registration will be necessary for the integrated applications, so the tradeoff is acceptable. I also figure that Ryan Thrash and the other devs have chosen SMF for very good reasons, since I know the ModX dev team has a very strong commitment to good clean SECURE code, so whatever cursing and discomfort I have to go through to skin the SMF installation will be more than made up for by it being a quality forum platform. Forum integration into the CMS is important for community sites, since the less effort people have to make to use features the more members will sign up.
To the ModX Developer Team- THANK YOU! I see only great things ahead for this project and look forward to helping in any way I can to promote and aid this fabulous effort.
