Apple announces “Boot Camp” — dual boot OSX and WinXP on Intel Macs
Apple announced today the release of a new free beta download called Boot Camp which allows Macs running the Intel Chip to dual boot both OSX and WinXP. This is great news for front end devs who will only now need one machine for testing on both systems.
I bought a used IBook for testing websites a few months ago, figuring that was all I would use it for, and ended up loving it. Ergonomically it’s MUCH more comfortable than my IBM thinkpad. I had already considered possibly getting a new IBook when the Intel IBooks are released, since I find myself using the IBook when I go mobile instead of the Thinkpad, which was very unexpected, since I’ve owned PCs since before they had hard drives. Putting the opsys I’m used to on hardware that my fingers love is a marriage made in heaven for sure.
The ability to run both WinXP and OSX will most likely make a new IBook purchase a certainty for me. Though BootCamp is currently a beta add on, according to Apple it will be a standard component in their OSX Leopard update, due out in August.
