The Adobe Macromedia Merger starts showing results

The new bundled software from Adobe shows Macromedia products included for the first time. Their new Design Bundle combines the full versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, GoLive, Acrobat, Version Cue, Bridge, and Stock Photos with Macromedia Flash, for example, while the Web Bundle combines Macromedia Studio 8 with the Adobe Creative Suite, which is a lot of software even at the price they’re asking.

My opinion is that these bundles might be TOO meaty and combine too much in one package. Personally, I’m a webgeek and have never used Illustrator nor some of the other programs that are more print oriented. I’d personally like to see these Adobe program bundles broken down further. The bundle that did seem to make the most sense was the video bundle which only has programs that someone who does mainly multimedia would love to have, both from the Adobe lineup and from the Macromedia offerings.

One thing I’m glad to see is that none of the programs I love are missing from the lineup, something many of us were worried about, since there is some duplication of purpose in some of the programs from one side of the fence to the other, and there are proponents for both the Adobe offerings and the Macromedia offerings. Whether this will remain true into the future remains to be seen. I guess as long as they all have a market they’ll stay in the game.
