SEO and Blogging
Usually when it’s getting close to the end of the month I go into AWStats and look over the keyphrase list. It’s amazing what it tells me and this month is the most astonishing so far. What it tells me is that even though I only have ONE ebay template for download I’m getting almost as many people come into my site on the variations for that search term, variations such as ebay template, ebay templates, custom ebay template, ebay template use, etc. as I am for variations on my up until now number one– variations on WordPress Theme.
Some others in variations that are starting to come in strong– modx template, cubecart template, esyndicat template, phpld template, joomla template.
I’ve always been one to at least look at trends and see how I can take advantage of them. Now, seeing this, I realize I have to cater to these alternative markets more, especially since I love templating to all of them, and to blog each and every one of those terms more frequently, since if people are searching for these things I want them to have as many back doors as possible to find me on those phrases. And every time I blog I tag (except on those few occasions when I forget!)
What does this do? Since I have numerous pings set up in admin, it automatically notifies all the blog services whenever I update and the tags tell them what the post is about, so they can index me for those tags. This creates beaucoup backlinks almost immediately, and all of them are highly targeted links. It also freshens the index page of my site, since I have my index page set up to reflect the last few blogpost titles. If I blog every day my index page looks fresh and different every day, which keeps the Google, MSN and Yahoo spiders happy and active on my site. Blogging is a wonderful SEO tool.
I also stumbled into a wonderful accident that got me so many backlinks and referrers it’s unbelievable, though I certainly didn’t do it for that reason. I joined the Save the Internet fight, an issue I truly care about and believe in, and got the karma bonus of being added to the Save the Internet Blogroll!
