Update on Bad Behavior WordPress Plugin
I am a happy camper. Not only has the deluge of comment spams slowed to a very manageable trickle, but the very few that do come in go into moderation where I can deal with them properly. This means that I’m down to a nice 10 or so personal and business emails in my mailbox overnight instead of well over 100 with 90% of them being comment spam notices. It also seems to be shaving around 7-8mb per “visitor” off my bandwidth in my stats, which will make a huge difference over time. That’s if I’m reading those stats right. I’m not a very statistically minded person, but yes, I can see a difference.
So if you’re having a comment spam problem I highly recommend the Bad Behavior plugin as the one to try first. Unless I get hit exceptionally hard it’s probably the only one I’ll need. I also look forward to the imminent release of the new version, since Michael, the creator, says it’ll be even more effective than the one I’m running now.
On a personal note- Michael is a class act. He believes in his plugin, supports it and goes the extra mile to make sure folks are happy with it,and that it’s doing what he says it’s supposed to do. And if the new version is everything he says it is, I’ll be buying him another burger or two via the paypal donation link on his site . . . if you have as good an experience with it as I have, I hope you do the same. We all need to support this type of effort, especially when the folks who are doing the work are as conscientious and caring as Michael is. It’s folks like Michael who are making the internet a nicer place to “hang out.”

Well, maybe a slice of pizza instead. I’m a little tired of burgers.

Hello!
I installed Wordpress on my server, and set up a site. It’s a relly nice piece of software. However, I am missing a piece of functionality, and
couldn’t find a suitable answer for it. Mayou you know a plugin I could use?I need to automatically inserts ads in my posts. And not AdSense ads, but rather HTML snippets defined by me (affiliate links, etc). Let’s say I would insert a tag in my post:
– ad here –
and the plugin would automatically replace it with some HTML code, when the post is displayed on my site.I really don’t need any fancy configuration options etc, just the basic replace functionality.
Do you know a plugin that can handle this?

You need to check at Wordpress. I know there are some plugins that do this but I don’t use them, and can’t recommend any.
