Snowe Dorgan Amendment for Net Neutrality Defeated by a tie.
It’s time to get the Senate Judiciary Committee involved, since the amendment for Network Neutrality to the telecommunications bill (S. 2686) was defeated by a TIE vote of 11-11 in Committee. It amazes me that our government hasn’t learned yet that the minute they give in to the Telecomms the Telecomms no longer have the incentive to build out this broadband network they’ve been promising us for over ten years, the one we’ve already paid for in tax dollars, and that was never built. Or maybe the politicians have learned, and just don’t want to stop those campaign contributions from rolling in . . .
I’ve got news for any politician who votes against network neutrality. The buck stops here. Your ass is grass. Our vaunted Pennsylvania politicians already made muni wifi illegal to kiss Verizon’s ass, I’ll be damned if I’ll vote for anyone come November who kills our neutral Web.

Not simple. The bill in Congress to eliminate net
neutrality is being backed and lobbied by EVERY
SINGLE ISP IN THE COUNTRY, theres only a
dozen or so. If you think your “local” ISP
wouldn’t do this think again, they’re nothing but a
reseller for one of these larger corporations.

Earthlink has been lobbying FOR network neutrality, and very vocally. The head of Earthlink spoke before the Senate committee and his words are on the record. Time for the US people to start voting with their pocketbooks. My ISP is Earthlink.

Asking for govt regulation of the internet to protect against the threat of monopolists just seems like opening up a can of worms. Is balkanization really so bad anyways ???? It seems more likely to foster the development of new twchnologies and business model that an internet in permanent homeostatsis.

The internet has always been regulated, which is why it’s so successful. We who are fighting for Network Neutrality just want to assure it stays that way.
Permanent Homeostasis? I build websites. If the internet, in its present Network Neutral form was in permanent homeostasis BECAUSE of being network neutral I’d be out of work. I can assure you I’m far from being unemployed. Which means the internet is far from being stagnant. I can also assure you, candacejune, that your splog site will not be making any adsense dough if network neutrality is defeated.
The Telecomms have benefitted greatly, to the tune of BILLIONS of dollars in tax incentives, because of government regulation. It’s amazing they’re telling the US taxpayer now that government regulation is the “big bad wolf”.
