The timing on this is amazing. Google announces it’s purchased YouTube and the sharks are already circling to see if they can yank some money out of Google’s deep pockets. The European Commission has proposed that it would require websites which “broadcast video” to be licensed the same as TV. Cellphone networks showing video would also be affected. And of course, LICENSING FEES would apply. The debate on this should be interesting. And I hope that common sense prevails, and it doesn’t get passed. I can see what the Telecomms would do with this information on this side of the pond, not to mention the FCC.
