The BEST argument for Net Neutrality
My friend, Vicki, sent me a link the other day. I hadn’t heard of the Music Genome project nor of their sister project Pandora. I don’t know whether I should kiss or kick Vicki for this one, I’ve wasted so much time playing with it! Pandora allows you to manufacture your own channels of music to listen to, and it’ll also add songs from other artists based on what your choices are, to round things out and give you a taste of maybe some stuff you wouldn’t hear about otherwise. Now, my musical taste is pretty eclectic and oddball, leaning toward jazz but NOT smooth jazz, so I never hear stuff I like on the radio and rarely even find stuff I like on cd. Much to my surprise, I’ve found a LOT of music here in their archives that appeals. Though they don’t have any Kandia Kouyate or Exuma, they do have a lot of selections by Stephane Grappelli, Makoto Ozone and Gary Burton, Lena Horne, Flora Purim, Dave Van Ronk and other faves, and I’ve discovered some other artists I like a lot. And I get to “thumbs down” any song I don’t like and remove it from the list.
I can’t imagine that this type of website will be allowed to exist, basically commercial free, if Net Neutrality is scuttled. This site is without a doubt the best argument for a web free from censorship.

Huh. I tracked back - but it’s not showing. Weird.
