Zawodny slams Sharing
You’ve seen those links, the ones that tell you to SHARE. Actually there’s some at the bottom of this post. Jeremy Zawodny talks about them and what they do, what they don’t do, what they mean, what they don’t mean, and the website usability nightmare many, if not most, of them create for users.
Website usability is the most important aspect in the architecture of any web design. The cardinal rule? Don’t piss off your visitors. Putting in links that don’t make sense is one of those things that piss people off. Which brings up a very good point. When you click those little icons what exactly do they do? I guess it’s time for me to find out and eliminate the ones that could potentially piss my visitors off.
Point being is it’s fine to follow a fad if it actually does something positive for all involved, both site owner and visitors alike, but if it doesn’t, then out it goes.

“Actually there’s some at the bottom of this post.”
No, there aren’t. There are links to bookmark (delicious), post to digg, search, and such. There are no share links. How dumb would that make me look?

Um, I weeded a bunch out, Jeremy, based on your fine article . . .

Um. To sorta quote someone on the linked blog:
What’s with just ignoring links etc. that you’ve no interest in?
In other words, who gives a hoot if there are links here there and everywhere wherever? I never even see them myself. Kinda like ignoring billboards and stupid tv commercials.
