ControlCongress.com Site Launch
The “Control Congress” site was a fun site to do. The specs called for a very efficient use of screen real estate to accomodate advertising. John Konop, the site owner, uses this site as an adjunct to his very popular talk radio show, which covers Georgia and US politics.
What we came up with was a full width flexible three column theme with a full header and footer, and an ad bar right under the header. This allows for a good portion of the visible screen to accomodate advertising, while also allowing the navigation and other site aids, like the newsletter sign up, to be clearly visible as well. Though a traditional color scheme was used I did manage to sneak in some visual humor in the header, by superimposing a cutout image of the Capitol Dome onto one of a lightning strike, suggesting Strong Intervention on The Hill, which plays well to this crowd. The theme is fully widget enabled, with three different areas controlled by WordPress widgets– both side columns and the ad bar across the top under the header.
This site was officially launched a couple months ago. You can see they’re making full use of it!
