Oaktree Home and Garden Joomla Ecommerce site launched
Today we launched the Oaktree Home and Garden Centre Site, a combination information and ecommerce site to complement the bricks and mortar Oaktree Nursery in West Midlands UK. Neil’s purpose in building this site was to offer the things that he can’t fit into his present location but in which his customers might have an interest. Neil’s also a wealth of information, and plans to use the site to offer gardening tips, a planting calendar and other amenities and helpful hints to us who have a black thumb. Believe me, I’ll be one of the people asking questions!
The Joomla VirtueMart combination was the perfect vehicle to use for Neil’s site. Neil is planning on taking this site in as many directions as his visitors express an interest. Right now he’s trying Joomla extensions so he can have his planting calendar up by the time the spring planting season comes along. Neil also wants to offer visitors a venue in which they can ask their gardening questions, with him providing the answers that his many years of expertise in the field allow. He’s just starting to enter products into the cart, and has quite a few varieties of seed in now, and assures me that by the time we all start thinking of gardening there will be a wealth of items from which to choose. With Joomla VirtueMart Neil has all the site functions in one handy admin interface. He can add articles, edit his calendar, rearrange content and sidebars, and populate his own shopping cart without calling the webgeek. He’ll also be able to add other interactive Joomla extensions in the future to augment the site.
Kickass developed a custom Joomla VirtueMart template with to resemble those great old seed catalogs of the early 20th century. The Smithsonian online archive of old Seed Catalog Covers was the inspiration. The soft golds and blues of an early spring morning were used, with the striping, subtle gradients, and ornamental lettering that was the hallmark of those wonderfully vibrant old seed advertisements, and a perfect backdrop for the Oaktree Home and Garden Centre.
Neil’s still building, and there may be a sawhorse or a hammer laying around, but the site is, for the most part, in good shape, and functions well. Take a peek, ask a question, and maybe stock up on some seeds for spring!
