Seven NEW Wonders of the World — or should that be Major Embarassments?

If you really want to know about the impact Humans are having on this planet, then take a hop over to the New York Inquirer’s article about the 7 New Wonders of the World. This article isn’t for the faint of heart, nor is it for (most) Republicans, who continue to wear Rose Colored Oakleys where the environment is concerned. Dubya and his Capitalist predecessors take note– the way things are going we’re gonna get buried by the next seven.

*sigh* You know the only thing that annoys me about that article? The idiocy he promulgates about Yucca Flats and the mesa.

Okay. Here’s the deal, folks. I grew up in Las Vegas. My dad worked at the NTS for 30 years or so. So believe me when I tell you that I do know whereof I speak….

Yucca Mountain is the ONLY LOGICAL REPOSITORY SITE for nuclear waste on this continent - and quite probably on this planet (unless you want to consider White Sands NM). Why? Because it’s ALREADY 250k years from being usable of course!

Sheesh - get a GODDAMN grip. That piece of Nevada desert and mesa will never be good for anything before the sun implodes. So send the stuff there in good health….

And it’s NOT “Nevadans” bitching and moaning about Yucca Flats and the mesa, btw - it’s all those USELESS OBNOXIOUS ANNOYING California refugees, from whom PLEASE SPARE ME!

Now, what Nevada has always needed to do, and what they did NOT do, and what they now have no ABILITY to do is take the damn gov’t money that “was” (and is no longer) offered to FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE TRANSPORT SAFE.

    Idiots.

  2. vkaryl Says:

Oh, and btw, I take exception to your slur on capitalists: I AM a capitalist and proud of it. I’m NOT going to go the socialist route. You wanna go there, fine - head off to somewhere else in this world to live, but don’t come crying back here when you get tired of “repression”.

    Sheesh.

  3. BJ Says:

The way the current Republican Regime has trashed our environmental laws just so their corporate buddies can make a few more billions is the bad side of capitalism. You can get your back up all you want, but let’s face it, when the dollar rules everything goes to hell. BTW, the communists were worse polluters. Just because I used the word “capitalist” you’re instantly casting ME as a socialist? Get a grip. You know better.

  4. vkaryl Says:

Used that way, you’re helping “the cause” along which is buying into socialist crap….

One administration is not the same as the whole capitalist point. You should be saying “the Bush regime” or whatever.

And yes, I get my back up - I’m inundated on a DAILY BASIS by idiots who want to take my hard-earned lifestyle away from me because they are socialists/communists in the guise of the local Democrats.

Yeah. I’m not happy about what you said and how you said it.

Typical environmentalist nonsense, everything is sacred, every bug, weed and piece of dirt… everything except man. All you need to know about environmentalism is that it long supported the ban on DDT and knowingly let millions die. The idea that it has the welfare of mankind at heart is a big lie. It is fundamentally opposed to reason, to science, to technology, to industry; to all the things our lives require. It is anti-man.

Environmentalism’s Holocaust (really not for the faint of heart):

BTW, capitalism is not about the “dollar ruling” it’s about the right to be left alone to live your life, enjoy your liberty and pursue your happiness (including making gigantic profits from satisfying the needs of other individuals).

  6. BJ Says:

Nigel, there have been mistakes made on both sides of the issue, however that doesn’t mean we should throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Regulation is necessary, since our MegaCorporations have shown us time and time again that they’ll put profits ahead of quality of life. Have some mistakes been made in those regulations? I’m sure there have been, though I ‘m not sure the ban on ddt was one of them, and will not base an opinion on that on one article. A few well written and enforced regulations will make corporations be good neighbors, even if they’re kicking and screaming while they’re doing it. We don’t need another Bhopal. We don’t need another Exxon Valdez.

  7. Nigel Says:

We don’t need any of it. In cases of actual damage criminal prosecution for destruction of property, or infringing others rights, would take care of it.

Actually, the Bhopal disaster was caused by government interference, if I recall correctly, when socialist India took over the Exide(?) factory but lacked the expertise to run and maintain it, and ignored all the safety precautions that were in place.

As you said, communist polluters were the worst… socialists still are. And they all have a callous disregard for human life, e.g. Chernobyl cover-up.

    Gotta work… nice chatting!
