Porkers Put the Pinch on Breastfeeding Babies
Now, I know that when you have a trademark you have to actively defend it in order to keep it, but sheesh, can’t the National Pork Board pick their fights a little better? They not only are stomping on one very cool gal who is doing a lot to promote breastfeeding, but have ignored the fact that Jennifer’s the Editor of the Search Engine Guide. The OTHER White Meat is going to be SO smeared it will be unrecognizable as white before this is over, I’m sure.
What’s this about? Jennifer sells teeshirts through CafePress to pay for her website, The Lactivist, and raise money for human milk banks and raise awareness of breast feeding issues. One of the shirts she was offering had the slogan “the other white milk”.
Now, if they had approached her nicely, it wouldn’t be an issue. Instead the communication from The National Pork Board’s firm of attorneys was . . . well, to put it bluntly, it was purely slanderous. This is what they said:
“In addition, your use of this slogan also tarnishes the good reputation of the National Pork Board’s mark in light of your apparent attempt to promote the use of breastmilk beyond merely for infant consumption, such as with the following slogans on your website in close proximity to the slogan “The Other White Milk.” “Dairy Diva,” “Nursing, Nature’s Own Breast Enhancement,” “Eat at Mom’s, fast-fresh-from the breast,” and “My Milk is the Breast.”
The emphasis there is mine. The words are from Jennifer Daniel Collins, an attorney at Faegre & Benson who represents The National Pork Board. Jennifer Daniel Collins is a disgrace to womanhood. I wonder how the other potential clients of the Faegre & Benson Law firm are going to feel about what she’s done to her client, the National Pork Board.
This story is one of those that is destined to become a blog meme classic. How could it not be? I doubt that The National Pork Board will WANT to use the slogan when we’re all done with them.

Well, I got on the horn and called the National Pork Board to raise hell but was told that the Lady in question at the Lactivist and the National Pork Board had reached an agreement.
So, grills up this weekend (I completely disregard the weather when it comes to cooking out) and pork ribs are on. Unless I get lazy and go to Dreamland BBQ instead.
