Google snags Feedburner for $100 million
Well, it’s now guaranteed that you’ll see ads in your rss reader wherever a site has used Feedburner for its feed. The monetizing of rss has stepped up a notch with Google’s acquisition of Feedburner.
I’m just glad I resisted the urge to switch my feeds over to Feedburner like all the Successful-Blog Tuesday night gang were recommending.
What does Google get out of this deal, besides the feeds themeselves? They get a wealth of information about how people access and use feeds. They get the stats from all those feedburner feeds, and since many of them are podcasts, that could be very valuable information to Goog, the Information Monster. And it makes sense when coupled with this week’s news about Google’s transition to Google Universal, where blogsearch and news search will be rolled into the regular returns (which I thought should have always been the case.)
