Habari Developers Speak Out
There’s a great entry on the Habari User Group that is a series of Q/A that the dev team answers about the Habari Blog project.
Some of the topics covered– the choice of php5 and object oriented programming is top of the list, which was the right choice, and the topic is very timely with the recent announcement that php4 will no longer be supported after the end of the year. The breakaway from WordPress by some of the Devs was discussed, along with reasons and feelings, and as someone who works with wordpress a lot, all I can say is wow, yeah, a lot of us feel this way about wordpress, like a wrong turn was taken and we don’t know what to do about it. Hopefully Habari becomes the answer. What will make Habari different from other blog tools out there is also discussed, with a lot of focus on it being built from the ground up as a blog tool, and also with the knowledge of what came before, a perfect case in point being comment spam protection being built within core. Importing wordpress blogs and themes is talked about, and there is already a database importer which works. Theme importing is not yet enabled but could possibly come in future as a separate theme engine. Plugins can’t be imported directly, but with slight modification can be made to work with Habari. Multi-Language support is stressed as having high importance in upcoming Habari releases.
Anyone having interest in the future of blogging should enjoy the dev team answers, and I think you’ll be impressed with the varied and thoughtful responses. There is good blood on that team. I can’t wait for a stable release . . .
