Wordpress Theme for download; Kickass-OctoberPink for Breast Cancer Awareness

screenshot_1.jpgKickass-OctoberPink will hopefully help bloggers raise awareness of Breast Cancer during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This theme is free for non-commercial use as long as the linkback is left intact, and the blog using it posts about breast cancer awareness at least once during the month of October. Commercial users are allowed to use this theme during the month of October as long as a minimum donation of $50 US is made to either Gilda’s Club or the American Cancer Society before October 31st. Post here in the comments if you’ve done so, I’d love to see some donation love!

The Kickass-OctoberPink theme is a two column flexiwidth, and has three widgetized areas, the right column and the two lower boxes. Code is source ordered for strong Search Engine placement. It’s been tested and found good to go in FireFox, IE6, IE7, Opera and Safari.

[...] If you want to go pink yourself, and you have a wordpress blog, do check out my Kickass-OctoberPink Theme for WordPress. There are some conditions with its use– if you are a non-commercial site you have to blog at least once about breast cancer awareness during October. If you’re a commercial blog, you can donate a minimum of $50 to your favorite Cancer Charity. A couple are suggested on the post linked to. [...]

Hey, love the theme. We’re trying to use it for October but it’s doing something really bizarre. The only active plugin we have is Akismet and we are using WP 2.3 (Your theme is in the compatible list at Wordpress.org.)

I’ve tried configuring the sidebar both with and without widgets.

The URL is http://www.theworldaccordingtokang.com — I’ve left it up in all it’s weirdness in case you want to take a look.

  3. Ming Says:

Oh, I’ve also looked at it using both Opera and Firefox; just the sidebar seems messed up in Opera, but the text wrapping of the bottom boxes is off in Firefox too.

  4. BJ Says:

I just installed this theme on a brand new installation of WordPress 2.3 here:

    http://wordpresscustomthemes.net/wp/

As you can see, there are no problems, so I suggest it may be something you did. If not, then the only other possibility is Akismet, which I won’t use.

I will double check the zip archive, but the files running on the 2.3 testbed I just installed are the same ones I zipped up.

  5. Ming Says:

Hey BJ, I’m cross posting this to your site too. I don’t think it’s a problem with your theme, I’m having it with other 2.3 compatible themes too. Even Kubrick, though Classic is fine.

I did start fooling around with it after I posted the comment on your page, but the only change I managed to effect was making the sidebar visible (it had been aligned out of sight, to the left originally).

I have noticed that when I go to the single page view, the layout seems okay. I’m going to put up Kubrick and post to the WP support forums and see what they suggest. The only active plugin is Akismet.

    Thanks for taking a look!

  6. Ming Says:

I figured out what was going on. One of the posts had a stray div tag in it. Once I found that and killed it, all of a sudden the layouts returned to normal. (I only found it because I was focusing on resizing images to see if the width was forcing the layout problems.)

    The culprit:

  7. BJ Says:

I’m glad you got it sorted, Ming! Enjoy!

    Thanks for the reminder—-October.
