:)

I'll probably end up switching to Linux exclusively eventually. In the meantime, my Windows 2000 machine is still screaming at 384Mb RAM maxed and a 700Mhz cpu.

My XP system is about 3 times as powerful and, even with all the services turned off (themes, etc), it's slower. I tried Vista out, but I couldn't get past the freeze-ups and all that. I really don't need to see the windows I can cycle through in 3-D ;)

Mike, all that junk they put in is the first thing I strip out when I boot up a new machine. My XP desktop looks not much different than my win95 desktop did back in its day.

The thing that irritates me no end is that as long as Windows has a chunk of the end user market, I'll have to own a windows machine, since I HAVE to test on all platforms that have a chunk of the market.

Agreed about Linux,

Windows always ends up putting a lot of useless stuff (like being able to see all open window in 3 dimensions) into every new release, which puts the consumer in the, purposeful, position where they have to buy new hardware to support their OS.

I've been using RedHat since 3.x and, while Fedora and CentOS are sometimes problematic, ever since OpenOffice came out and got streamlined, I find no use for Windows whatsoever.

Nice post :)
