Do you believe this?
First I read this article in the Washington Post about DNS Error Redirection and the insecurity of it since the ads are served by a third party, resulting in all kinds of security issues. They say the security issues are fixed. There are, however, other ramifications to this.
In reading the article […]

Story on XP End of Life from Computer World says that Mainstream Support will be in place until April 2009, and security patches until April 2014.
This is important when put into the context of the next windows version after Vista, which will be going modular and moving to a subscription model. Which means being nickel […]

The IE 8 Beta is out.
There is already buzz about it, since IE8 passes Acid 2, supposedly. Of course, that’s a step behind already, since Acid 3 was just released. And according to the Slashdotters, IE8 only scores 17 on Acid 3, compared to the most recent stable version of Firefox, which scores 50 on […]

In the wake of all the hub-bub surrounding the passing of the Torch in the upper corporate echelons of Ebay, and the unwelcome Ebay Fee changes that came with it that resulted in an Ebay Seller Boycott, what hasn’t emerged is a clear alternative to Ebay. Well, I have one to suggest.
Most of the […]

We who design websites and test in multiple browsers need to note that an Auto Update is scheduled for February 12th to upgrade all IE users to IE7.
The reason this is important to WebDevs is that many corporate networks will not be installing this upgrade, so we will still have to keep testing in IE6. […]

The web and its domains can be a very profitable place. So profitable, in fact, that some less than scrupulous people with brains have figured out a way to tap into the whois databases to see which domain names are being searched. What happens then? If you do a search for a potential domain name […]

When the New York Times writes an article in their business section about Blogging as a marketing tool for small business, you know Blogging has made the Big Time.
I’ve been saying this for a long time. For a small business the BEST way to promote yourself is with a website that is on blogging software […]

It is SO damn close. It’s fast, faster than firefox even. (Though to be fair, I have plugins in FF that I don’t have in Safari.) Safari renders webpages well. It’s compliant. And I reallyreallyreally want a compliant browser that isn’t beholden to a search engine (like firefox is to google) for development funds, which […]

This is something I have mixed feelings about. The ICANN working group is trying to hammer out some sort of privacy policy on the various whois databases. It’s gotten to a point where they’re thinking of mandating simply shutting it down at the end of 2008 if an agreement isn’t hammered out between the various […]

Technology Review is reporting today on a web application from Radar Technologies, named Twine, that uses The Semantic Web and natural language processing to index information in a new way. What makes this one different is that you can enter your own information such as emails, doc files, spreadsheet and other local files, and also […]

In one of my many news email lists this morning was a link to an article reviewing a new photo resizer that is supposed to allow you to make a small photo bigger without all the pixellation and noise. Ohh, that could be very handy, it’s a pain to try to get results in photoshop […]

Okay, so it is a bit SHOCKING! I ended up with Schiaparelli Pink, since it was the easiest to deploy without a complete image remake and redesign. Talk about shaking things up! Wowza.
If you want to go pink yourself, and you have a wordpress blog, do check out my Kickass-OctoberPink Theme for WordPress. There are […]

Actually I can think of worse names for a child, but this kid is a new email client. Actually, there appears to be two, sorta. There’s the New Eudora version 8.0.0b1 (beta) for Windows and Mac, which includes the Penelope Extension, and then there’s the Penelope Extension for Thunderbird, which extends Tbird in Eudora-like ways.
Apparently […]

Technology Review is reporting that there’s a new company called Operator 11 that has developed a membership interface that allows a user to produce live video shows. The twist here is that viewers can participate, as long as they’re also members. “Operator 11 CEO Josh Harris says he sees the company as a video version […]

Now this IS good news! Yesterday the Alpha Release of the KiweeCommerce Ecommerce Module for ModX CMS was announced.
It’s very early days, but KiweeCommerce seems to be a working module already, though the devs say that much more needs to be done.
These are the features it’s offering so far:
Modular payment gateway architecture, which currently supports […]
