If you are a WordPress Theme Creator who offers free themes from your website, I warn you there is a snake in our little corner of the web. I won’t give the asshat a link but you should check to see if any of the themes you’ve worked so hard to create are being used […]

I set up a blog recently on another domain. It’s easier at upgrade time to have WordPress set up in a subdirectory, so you can install in a different directory and swap, and simply swap back if things go wrong. Less downtime while you suss what the problem is.
So if you install in a […]

I’ve been working with WordPress for awhile now, for my own sites and for many, many client sites. With the number of plugins out there it really is amazing the hoops you can make a WP site jump through. Some plugins simply add functionality that you cannot live without. Here are a few of […]

Even with the limits imposed by WordPress on the best xhtml/css source ordered negative margin layouts, there is still a lot you can do to customize a WordPress Theme.
Whether you make your columns LOOK like columns, or instead box out the side column lists by adding borders to all sides, whether you round the corners […]

I am a happy camper. Not only has the deluge of comment spams slowed to a very manageable trickle, but the very few that do come in go into moderation where I can deal with them properly. This means that I’m down to a nice 10 or so personal and business emails in my mailbox […]

And despite rumors that it sometimes has that effect, Bad Behavior hasn’t melted down my host’s server, nor have I gotten any Montastic notices about server outages. Bad Behavior isn’t blocking 100%, but it is down to around 5 a day, from the over 100 it was, so that’s definitely a huge improvement.
I’m still […]

Angsuman’s Referrer Bouncer let 49 comment spams through overnight, despite the “default list” being beefed up considerably by the accumulated list of IP numbers and domains I’d added to it. Didn’t matter. Not only that, but some of the comments were from IP numbers on the list, or from keywords on the list, so that […]

Well, one thing I like about Angsuman’s Referrer Bouncer already is that it does NOT mess with comment moderation like every other anti comment spam plugin I tried did. Comments that are from posters who have not posted before (and are humans filling in the form the old fashioned way) go into moderation, which is […]

This is obviously a screenshot of WordPress Support on “lunch break”. Now, understand something. This is a MAJOR support site, upon which I depend for at least a portion of my livelihood. Now, if this was an isolated incident I probably wouldn’t blog it, but this type of crap, whether it be server timeouts, […]

I sometimes get questions about Podcasting with WordPress. Well, now there’s a Podcasting Plugin called PodPress. It’s pretty full featured and seems to have everything a podcaster could want to install podcasts in his or her blog.
Enjoy!

Though WordPress did “enhance” the image handling capabilities in version 2.0.x, the image utility is not the easiest to use. It’s awkward, produces thumbnails instead of fullsize photos despite complaints of this on the forum, and is just plain counter intuitive for end users. So I went on a hunt to find a good image […]

Matt Mullenweig announced on the WordPress Forum that he has installed a “New WordPress Search.” What amazed me about this announcement and the responses to it is that it completely ignores the fact that Matt’s the one who BROKE the search when he decided to change the working forum to a completely untested and alpha […]

So I installed wp-spamassassin last night after that bizarre trackback spam episode, where I got over thirty trackback spams inside a couple hours, each of which had to be deleted one at a time. I haven’t gotten any more trackback spam since shortly after I installed the plugin, so I think it’s working (though there […]

Yeah, ever since I designed that blogskin for PC Mike and he not only blogged me but allowed me the linkback, things have been nuts here. He got hit hard with Comment Spam when he switched from TypePad to WordPress, and being a TV Celeb and all, who is linked from both the NBC News […]

I’ve finally been making headway in the fight to make source ordered negative margin layouts work in WordPress 2.0 but it’s been an uphill battle.
The problem seems to be in clearing. A LOT more clearing elements are needed in the css to make layouts work in WordPress 2.0 themes in Firefox that aren’t needed in […]
